While Karen was busy with the ETAI conference, Pete and I went with Sara to do a little shopping and visit her family.
Culture shock!! Not only could we not speak or read the language, we couldn't even make out the letters to try to figure it out. The language difference was a lot of fun, though. Here's Pete with a bottle of ketchup. It doesn't take much to entertain us, does it?
After the conference we all returned to the Buchbinders' house where I relaxed in their gracious hospitality.
Next morning, Karen visited with their gardner, who had just picked some lemons from a tree in their yard.
Anita had arranged for Lea to give us a tour of Old Jerusalem. I'll leave most of those shots for a later post, but here are a couple of pics of us during the tour.(Pete, Lea, Anita, and Karen)
Then Lea took a picture so I could be in it. She is a professional guide and really knew her stuff. Not only did we see all the important things, but we got an interesting and sometimes funny account of the history surrounding them.
Here's our little group taking a much needed sit-down in the shade beside the Garden of Gethsemane.
After a long day as tourists, it was good to relax at Anita's again.
After a rest, Anita and her husband took us to the markets. What an adventure! Lots of open-air stalls selling everything you could need to run a household.
Beans, nuts, vegetables, and melons
Spices galore!
And mouth-watering pastries
Then on to a little restaurant with an interesting selection of foods. I took a photo of the menu to give you an idea. If you zoom in you can see such things as: Chicken Hearts, Lamb Fat, Tonsils, and Goose Liver.
Here we are waiting for our dinner. Part of the decor included currencies from around the world. You can see some of them above us.
